Renegades roll past Fillies in 5
The Stillwater Renegades took full advantage of a struggling bullpen to chalk up another conference win against the Colstrip Fillies last Thursday.
The Renegade offense was rolling from the first pitch, racking up six runs in the first two innings.
In the bottom of the third, though, the bats really came alive. Stillwater scored seven runs before Colstrip could record an out. One batter shy of cycling through the order twice, the Renegades scored 12 runs in the third inning.
The Fillies came back swinging, scoring four in the top of the fourth, but that is where any comeback hopes died.
Ending early in the fifth inning, the Renegades finished the game with an 18-6 victory.
This puts Stillwater at 2-1 in conference play, with two tough games next week against Huntley and Glasgow.
Coach John Smith emphasized that his players have been performing well this season. Typically, it has been one bad inning with several unearned runs that have put the Renegades out of reach in close games.
For this week’s games, particularly against Glasgow as that game counts against conference standings, the girls need to show up prepared to do their best and not give away outs that result in easy runs for the other team, Smith said.
If the Renegades can play clean, with no errors, the games against Huntley and Glasgow should be good matches.
